Team earns two awards in statewide competition

Congratulations to our award-winning What’s So Cool About Manufacturing (WSCAM) team!
The statewide WSCAM competition, presented by Catalyst Connections, is designed to highlight the complexity and diversity of the manufacturing industry and pairs manufacturing businesses with teams of middle school students to explore and answer the question, "What's so cool about manufacturing?"
Deer Lakes’ team of Jordan Marsh, Ethan Miller, Max Nulph, Nathan Olszewski, Mae Riggs, and Avery Slavin partnered with Hellbender, Inc., which produces AI navigation and motion capture products out of their facility in Harmarville.
The team went on two site visits to tour the Hellbender, Inc. facility and interview staff members about their business' mission and methods of production. Students also storyboarded, filmed, edited, and produced a two-minute video highlighting Hellbender, Inc.
Deer Lakes placed third in the "Best Manufacturing Message" category. Additionally, with the help of our phenomenal student population and community, our team placed second in the "Viewer's Choice" category!
Thank you to everyone who watched and voted for their video during the competition window, and congratulations to our team of talented students!
