National History Day participants among best in state

Three teams of Middle School students and senior Melanie Brown recently competed in the statewide National History Day contest. They unquestionably put together some of the best team and individual projects in the state, starting months ago with a variety of ideas before focusing on selected topics that appropriately explored historical individuals and events that were socially, culturally, and legislatively transformative and revolutionary.
Middle School teams explored topics like the creation and testing of the atomic bomb during World War II, how Jackie Robinson sparked racial reform in sports and society in the mid-20th century, and Clara Barton's creation of the American Red Cross Foundation following the Civil War. Melanie Brown focused on how women’s large-scale entry into the workforce during World War II led to a labor revolution and legislative reform.
We applaud their decisions to research topics that truly shaped and continue to shape the world and their efforts to fully investigate those topics to deliver well-rounded presentations that provided extensive historical accuracy, context, perspectives, and significance.
Excellent work, everyone!
